KARACHI: Motorway Police is setting up 80 Road Safety Training Institutes (RSTIs), said Nasir Mehmood Satti, the Motorway Police, South Zone DIG.
He was addressing a ceremony held at the Road Safety Training Institute of Motorway Police, Karachi.
Certificates were given to the first batch of 120 people who successfully completed their three-month driving training. The training has been launched across the country to create job opportunities for unemployed youth.
Faisal Edhi, who was the chief guest, distributed the certificates among trainees. Position holders were given cash awards. Edhi praised the efforts of Motorway Police.
DIG Satti said that the Road Safety Training Institutes would soon become operational. “By next year, approximately 100,000 unemployed youth will be trained in the field of driving,” he said.
“These courses are not only useful in spreading road safety awareness among people, but will also help reduce accidents. Every year, more than 25,000 people are injured in road accidents. Approximately 10,000 out of them are disabled,” he said.
He said that the trained drivers were given jobs in various government and private departments.
