ISLAMABAD: Senate paid tribute to renowned late philanthropist Dr Abdul Sattar Edhi on Tuesday and unanimously passed a resolution to officially declare July 8 as Edhi day.
The unanimously passed resolution was put forward by Leader of the House Raja Zafar-ul-Haq. The house also announced that every member will donate Rs 20,000 to the Edhi Foundation on a monthly basis.
Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani said that the salary of the senators for the month of July had been donated to the foundation which would be utilised to buy new ambulances. The resolution also stated that Dr Edhi served his entire life to support the orphans and the helpless people. Addressing the new generation, July 8 should be celebrated commemorating Dr Edhi’s services for the society, it added.
